Divorce

If you’re reading this page, you’re likely facing one of the most difficult transitions of your life. Whether the decision is fresh, still under consideration, or already underway, I want you to know that the financial side of this process can be handled thoughtfully — and that you don’t have to figure it out alone.

First, take a breath.

Emotions run high in divorce, and understandably so. But the decisions made during this period will shape your finances for decades. The most expensive outcomes I see rarely come from bad math; they come from choices made while people are exhausted, angry, or afraid.

So before anything else, I encourage both spouses to step back and ask a quieter question: What do I want my life to look like when this is over? Not who was right. Not who deserves what. Just an honest picture of the life you're trying to build on the other side of this. That vision becomes the standard against which every settlement option can be measured.

Why I encourage mediation.

Divorce does not have to be a war. When both parties are able to stay at the table — through mediation or another collaborative process — they typically keep more of their money, reach resolution faster, and retain far more control over the outcome than a court would ever give them. Litigation has its place, and some situations genuinely require it. But when an amicable path is available, it is almost always the better one, particularly when children are involved and the two of you will remain in each other's lives for years to come.

How I can help.

As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner, I work alongside your attorney or mediator to bring clarity to the numbers. You may find this useful if:

You don't know where to begin.

The process feels enormous and you're not sure what the first step even is. I can help you organize your financial picture and understand what decisions are actually in front of you.

You've never managed the finances before.

If your spouse handled the money, taking that over can feel overwhelming. There's no shame in it, and it's entirely learnable. I'll walk you through it.

You're worried your settlement won't hold up over time.

A Marital Settlement Agreement that looks fair today can fall short years from now. I model proposed settlements forward — accounting for taxes, inflation, retirement, housing, and future income — so you can see how each option is likely to play out over your lifetime, not just at signing.

You're not sure you're looking at this the right way.

Sometimes you simply need an experienced, objective set of eyes to tell you what you might be missing. That's often the most valuable thing I do.
